I always have trouble with the middle parts of a story and scene. Even reading I tend to get bored easily especially now with tv and social media.
But at the same time, the middle can really build or set up crucial parts especially in longer series. It’s great for foreshadowing. Starting other plot devices. Rounding out characters.
I just get stuck on the how.
For example, the first book I’m working on in Peregrina’s story. It’s definitely a negative story arc when you look at the big ideas. The trouble I’m having though is creating middle scenes that progress the lie Peregrina believes and fall’s victim too.
In another way with Klytië the toughest part for me was the middle. After all I know how it ends and how it begins but the middle stuff… it’s hard.
Going back and editing, I either cut a ton of scenes or information or I add more than is needed. Or I end up repotting the whole book.
What do you find is a turn off for the middle build of a story when reading?
