Dune Part 2 – worth it

Hey all! Happy Wednesday!

If you haven’t had a chance take the opportunity to see Dune Part 2. Do it. It’s a cinematic masterpiece. I absolutely loved it.

I’ve read the Dune books up to the 3rd which I’m currently reading Children of Dune. And I’ll be the first to admit I’m comparing all my favorite books to their movie adaptations and that I love to spend hours pointing out the things that are wrong and whether or not it’s a forgivable mistake. (not my most redeeming quality but it’s totally a hobby)

But Dune Part 2 captured and beautifully conveyed my biggest struggle with the Dune series. I’ve always loved my hero’s as the classic hero good guy save the world and that’s exactly what Paul Atreides is not.

The way it’s brought to life in this cinematic take on Dune captures the struggle of wanting Paul to be the hero but also watching him give into power and do things for reasons and in ways that don’t make him a hero.

I know. I know, Frank Herbert thought of Paul as more of an antihero. And in a way he is but he reminds me of all the great villains in literature and history at the same time.

So go watch it. It’s masterfully done and conveys I think the heart of Herbert’s message and remains true enough to the books to be a lasting classic.

If you have seen it what did you think? Do you agree? Let me know in the comments!
