Blogs, author websites, Facebook, Pinterest, Tumblr, Twitter, oh my. As I grow in confidence in writing and eagerness to share my works, the options to share writing works are incredible. Eventually, someday, I might grow to post witty comments on Twitter or market myself on Facebook. However, I think I’ll stick to Pinterest, Tumblr, and this blog for now.
Why a blog? Truthfully, no matter how good or average my personal Facebook or Twitter posts are, they always make me cringe after. I notice minor mistakes. Since I tend to write as I talk, I realize how awkward my sentence was because it was usually a quick post to update family and friends. Weirdly enough, writing long sentences to communicate ideas is less stressful for me. Although I’m also the person that types out whole paragraphs in text messages and will spend ten minutes explaining various things. That no one actually wanted to know or why it’s incorrect, or the idea expressed was shortened and how fascinating the entire subject matter is to learn about. (I love researching things, so explaining any subject matter is fun).
That’s why I love Pinterest and Tumblr! Pinterest is a mass exchange of ideas. I search for images relating to any idea, and it pops up with more ideas and related ideas. Plus, I can organize to my heart’s content. I spend way too much time organizing ideas and thoughts on Pinterest, especially now that I can organize my boards. Tumblr is great because I love the supportive writing community on Tumblr. Post can be longer and shorter based on what is being written. It’s easy to separate and can be posted as links. When the visual inspiration of Pinterest is too much, Tumblr makes a great writing inspiration. Especially when I’m stuck.
So what then is the purpose of my blog? Arguably a blog can’t take the place of social media in its form of platform building. Everyone has some form of social media. It’s fun to follow favorite authors and writers on social media. I do it… well, on Twitter, not Facebook. But here is what it can do, it can be a place to share stories from my efforts to work on various projects/books. My efforts at outlining the resources I use and find. It can share clips of stories or backgrounds of stories I am working on. I can share news, lists, thoughts, and experiences as I try to figure out a writing career in a changing world.
So if you could see your favorite author write a blog post, what would you want them to write about? Or could it be a whole blog?
